WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
1953
The Foundations
Founded in 1953 by the visionary Bob Bankier, Salvesen Community Football Club has been a beacon of sporting excellence and community spirit for over six decades. What began as a humble initiative to create recreational opportunities for the local kids soon blossomed into a thriving football club with a rich history.
The club's name, Salvesen, pays homage to a local housing estate funded by the Christian Salvesen Group, which lent its name to the community endeavor. From its inception, Salvesen CFC embraced the spirit of unity and camaraderie that has come to define it today.
THE TURNING POINT
1953 - Present
The Journey So Far
Salvesen's journey to prominence was guided by their very first Honorary President, Norman Salvesen, who graciously granted permission for the club to use his family crest - a symbol still cherished and displayed with pride. Over the years, the club has been fortunate to have several Honorary Presidents, but none more illustrious than the late Sir Stanley Mathews, a true footballing legend.
Today, Salvesen boasts an impressive roster of over 200 players, ranging from aspiring Mini Kickers to skilled Amateur footballers. The club's commitment to inclusivity is evident in the weekly disability football session they run, providing an opportunity for all to participate in the beautiful game.
MOVING FORWARD
2023 & Beyond
More Than A Club
Beyond fostering community engagement and passion for football, Salvesen CFC has nurtured remarkable talents, producing a string of players who have gone on to make their mark in the professional football arena. Stars like Gary Mackay (Heart of Midlothian FC & Scotland), Gary O'Connor (Hibernian FC & Scotland), David Bowman (Heart of Midlothian FC & Scotland), Scott Wilson (Rangers FC), and Lee Wallace (Heart of Midlothian FC & Scotland) and many more owe their roots to Salvesen, embodying the club's legacy of excellence.
As Salvesen CFC continues to inspire future generations, their story remains a testament to the power of a close-knit community and a shared love for the sport. From its humble beginnings to its present stature, Salvesen CFC stands tall as a shining example of a football club that not only shaped careers but also left an indelible mark on the hearts of its community members.
"Football is more than just a game. It's a platform for bringing people together, building community, and creating positive change."
